An Ultra-slick, New Age Robin HoodAlex Fine has a unique ability to travel through the Internet in a digitized form. The descriptions of this power are quite interesting and enjoyable. Dispersed throughout a story that moves very well, they are highlights among a tale with plenty of interesting and exciting scenes.
Once Alex discovers his ability, he doesn't sit idle. He explores several exotic locations. Along the way, he sees many things he's never seen or even knew existed. One of the most moving for him, is a level of poverty very difficult to imagine. He resolves to use his powers for good, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Yes, it does have a very Robin Hood feel to it. Of course, we're not talking about a swashbuckling Robin Hood, but an ultra-slick, new age Robin Hood with the ability to steal and give behind the scenes. Alex's new found power isn't without its drawbacks. He attracts some attention from the wrong people and ends up getting in hot water more than a few times. He manages to stay one step ahead of danger for most of the story, aside from a pretty serious scrape with some real killers and what appears to be soldiers or mercenaries who are hot on his tail. |
All in all, this was a fast moving read with a very interesting and unique premise. The only drawbacks for me were the relative ease with which Alex became comfortable with his power and how to use it, and the level of ease with which he was able to get out of a couple situations that I'd hoped may be a bit more taxing for him. That being said, I'm very much looking forward to where the story takes him next.
